New appliances in an older kitchen require more than a delivery crew.
Fit matters. Connections matter. In a Portland home, the hookup is rarely straightforward.
Appliance installation in an older Portland home is not the same as dropping a new refrigerator into a new construction opening. The cabinet openings may not match today’s standard appliance dimensions. The electrical connections may be on the wrong circuit or the wrong amperage. The gas line may be in the wrong location for a new range.
We install kitchen appliances with attention to what an older home actually requires. The appliance fits the space. The connections are correct. Everything works when we leave.

Kitchen appliances we handle
Refrigerators Standard, counter-depth, French door, built-in. Counter-depth refrigerators require precise cabinet clearance — critical in an older kitchen where the surrounding cabinetry may not have been built to today’s standard dimensions. We verify the fit before the appliance is in place.
Ranges and Cooktops Gas and electric. In older Portland homes, gas line placement and electrical circuit capacity are the two things that determine whether a range installation is simple or complicated. We assess both before the delivery date.
Dishwashers Plumbing connection, drain line, electrical hookup, and proper mounting. Older kitchens sometimes have plumbing configurations that require an adapter or a short update. We handle it as part of the installation, not as a surprise on installation day.
Range Hoods and Ventilation Ducted and ductless. In an older home, routing a duct for a new range hood can involve going through a wall, a soffit, or a cabinet run that wasn’t designed for it. We plan the route before we cut anything.
Microwaves Over-the-range microwaves require electrical and ventilation connections and secure mounting. We handle the installation correctly.
Wall Ovens Wall oven installation requires a precise cabinet opening and correct electrical supply. If the existing opening needs adjustment, we handle that as part of the installation.
What we check before installation day
In a newer home, appliance installation is largely a matter of delivery and hookup. In a Portland Victorian or Colonial, we add a preliminary step: we assess the electrical circuits, gas connections, and cabinet dimensions before the appliance arrives.
That step prevents the situation where a new refrigerator shows up and the opening is an inch too narrow. Or a new range arrives and the gas line is on the wrong side. Or a dishwasher is installed and the plumbing connections require an emergency call to a plumber.
We check first. Installation day goes smoothly because we’ve already solved the problems.
Part of a renovation?
When appliance installation is part of a kitchen renovation, we sequence it correctly — appliances go in after cabinets and countertops, with dimensions and cutouts planned from the start. If you’re buying new appliances for a renovation project, we can help you think through specifications before you purchase so what you buy fits what we’re building.
